Saucy Sauerkraut and Smoked Sausage

Get ready for a tasty recipe with a few surprises!


  • 27 oz. Sauerkraut

  • 16 oz. Smoked Sausage or Kielbasa, sliced into ¼” rounds

  • 1 cup onions, sliced 1/8” thick and rough chopped

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup apple juice

  • ¾ tsp. caraway seeds

  • ½ teaspoon RFS Smooth & Mellow

Rinse sauerkraut in colander and squeeze out excess water

In a large pot, brown the sliced smoked sausage over medium high heat. Stir frequently approx. 4 minutes. Add onions, cook and stir frequently until caramelized, approx. 5 minutes

Add the apple juice, brown sugar, caraway seeds and RFS Smooth and Mellow. Stir for approx. 1 minute, then add rinsed sauerkraut and mix all ingredients together

Simmer at medium low heat for 1 hour and stir occasionally

Serves 2 to 4
